Community Assistance Program

Helping You Strengthen Our Community

The Community Assistance Program (CAP) is the current design of the community outreach effort offered by the College of Charleston’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program. The MPA Program has been dedicated to creating an environment that nurtures community service for nearly three decades. Initially, the mission  of CAP was to provide technical assistance for local governments. Recognizing the continued growth and service provision of nonprofits in the Lowcountry as well as our students' training and skill-sets, CAP has also begun assisting local nonprofits as they pursue their missions. Today, a wide variety of support services are offered at low or no cost, and can be tailored according to the specific needs of organizations and municipalities. The CAP Program Director and a team of MPA Graduate Assistants apply innovative techniques to strengthen internal operations and program delivery. Our staff has the training and ability to assist with:

  • Survey & Quantitative Research
  • Data Collection
  • Program Development & Evaluation
  • Fundraising, Marketing & Grant Research
  • Budgeting & Financial Management
  • Board & Volunteer Training
  • Capacity Building, Strategic Planning & Organization Assessment

The Graduate Assistants in the Community Assistance Program have created a Nonprofit Directory that catalogs nonprofits in the Charleston Area. This directory is intended to be a resource for nonprofit collaboration. It is our hope that this directory will lessen redundancy of nonprofit services and help nonprofits to locate other service providers.
