he/him/his

Scott has been an Adjunct Faculty member at the College of Charleston since August of 2017.  A native of Baltimore, Maryland, and a first generation college student, Scott received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from McDaniel College in 1978 and his J.D. from Washington and Lee University, School of Law in 1981.  Scott practiced law in the Baltimore region over the course of four decades, primarily focusing on land use law.  His practice provided the opportunity to manage a law firm, try numerous land use cases before a wide variety of boards, commissions and hearing officers, argue many appellate cases before state circuit and appellate courts, lobby at the state and local levels, and handle an interesting assortment of real estate transactions.  Scott has also been an adjunct instructor at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.  Additionally, he has served on an array of for profit and non-profit boards over a diverse range of disciplines, including banking, health care, and education.

Scott and Yvonne, his wife of over forty years, attempted to “retire” to the lowcountry in 2017.  Scott is the Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.  When not visiting their two sons and daughters-in-law and two granddaughters, he enjoys reading, golf, traveling, dining, and cheering for the Baltimore Ravens.  When he does successfully retire, Scott hopes to return to coaching lacrosse, which he did for over 25 years at all age levels.  Scott can be reached at gbarhight@gmail.com and 443-823-5967.
